 Project Title: Instagram images for preventing tick-borne illness
 Partner Community: All Massachusetts cities and towns
Project Description: These images were created by APHC Corps members to educate MA residents about preventing tick-borne illness every summer. They are freely available for any community to download and use on their Instagram account.

 Partner Community: Great Meadows Public Health Collaborative (Sudbury, Wayland, Weston, Concord, Carlisle, Lincoln, Bedford)
Project Description: APHC Corps members created a sewer system care brochure to educate residents in the Great Meadows Public Health Collaborative about sewer maintenance.

 Partner Community: Metacomet Collaborative (Wrentham, Franklin, and Norfolk)
Project Description:

APHC Corps Members created food hygiene materials in English and Spanish for temporary food vendors in the Wrentham, Franklin and Norfolk area.

 Project Title: COVID rapid test instructions (English and Spanish)
Project Description: Corps members created and translated this simple one-page instructional flyer for how to use a rapid COVID test. It was printed and distributed to residents accompanying free test kits.

Project Description: Corps members created and translated this one-page flyer and Instagram images about Narcan, a medication that reverses an opioid overdose.

Mapping Rodent Complaints in Peabody, MA

 Project Title: Mapping Rodent Complaints in Peabody, MA
 Partner Community: Peabody, MA
Project Description:

The City of Peabody was exploring new options for rodent control throughout the city. APHC Corps members took 10 years’ worth of residents’ pen and paper rodent complaints and created a heatmap in ArcGIS, identifying the hot spots the city should target for surveillance and mitigation efforts.

Project Description:

APHC Corps members analyzed Brookline Department of Public Health survey data to help choose strategies to reduce the risk of falls in senior housing.

 Project Title: Mansfield Food Service Inspection Data
 Partner Community: Mansfield, MA
Project Description:

APHC Corps Members created data visualizations for internal and external use using data obtained by Mansfield Health Department inspectors. Findings were presented by Corps Members at a Mansfield Board of Health meeting.

 Project Title: Chelsea Tobacco Retail Map
 Partner Community: Chelsea, MA
Project Description: APHC Corps members mapped 500 foot buffers around public and private schools in Chelsea to visualize what retail locations will be unable to sell tobacco in the future.

Landscape Analysis of Community Organizations in Springfield, MA

 Project Title: Landscape Analysis of Community Organizations in Springfield, MA
 Partner Community: Vaccine Equity Initiative, Department of Public Health
Project Description: A Corps member completed a landscape analysis of local organizations and faith-based communities in Springfield, MA, to identify which organizations could conduct a COVID-19 vaccine clinic and reach different populations and to serve as a first step for deploying those programs.

Report on “Ghost Kitchens” in Massachusetts

 Project Title: Report on “Ghost Kitchens” in Massachusetts
 Partner Community: Lexington, MA
Project Description: Ghost kitchens, commercial kitchens being used for delivery-only food orders, started springing up across MA during the pandemic. One Corps member researched this phenomenon and its implications for restaurant inspections and food safety, and created recommendations for future actions.

 

Local Board of Health Meeting Minutes for the Town of Sherborn

 Project Title: Local Board of Health Meeting Minutes for the Town of Sherborn
 Partner Community: Sherborn, MA
Project Description: A Corps member took detailed meeting minutes at Sherborn Board of Health meetings, which allowed the board to focus on other important administrative areas.

 

Brookline Animal and Beekeeping Regulations

 Project Title: Brookline Animal and Beekeeping Regulations
 Partner Community: Brookline, MA
Project Description:

APHC Corps members:

  • Collected and summarized animal keeping regulations in towns neighboring Brookline with the purpose of informing the drafting of future regulations.
  • Conducted a brief survey of available literature, including gray literature, on the impact of keeping backyard honey bees on the local pollinator bee population.
  • Summarized the findings of both animal keeping regulation and honeybee research into a slide deck, including the APHC’s recommendations for animal keeping regulations in the city of Brookline.
